330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.8%, 80 IBU. Nearly black colour, moderate beige head. Aroma of roast malts and piney American hops. The flavour is first fairly smooth, which probably means that it is fairly well balanced, despite the lack of modesty in use of both roast malts and piney hops. The finish is distinctly bitter, both from the bittering hops and the roastiness.

On tap at Cervecería The Situation. Black colour, medium beige head that fades to a thin crown. Good lace. Aroma starts with hops, tropical fruits. Then leaves place to bitter chocolate, licorice, dried fruits, nuts. Medium body, creamy palate, good carbonation. Hoppy finish. Taste follows the aroma: hops, tropical fruits, chocolate, caramel, dried fruits, nuts. Excelent.

Pours a deep, dark brown coloration, with plenty of tiny floaters and a medium, creamy head. Smells lovely of roasted, slightly smokey malt, licorice and citrus/tropical notes of orange and passion fruit. Taste follows the nose, being dominated by roasted, lightly smokey malt, plenty of licorice and pine, some tobacco and more subtle notes of citrus and tropical fruit: orange, grapefruit, passion fruit. Finishes with a medium bitterness and lots of pine coming through in the aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation.
This has a good balance of roasted malt and fruity hops and is also characterized by strong notes of licorice and pine. Exactly what I would expect of a great Black IPA.

9 Mayo 2018. From Decervecitas. In Teku glass. Playing Avernum 2. Superb implementation of the style, with a smooth, creamy feel and perfectly integrated hoppy notes. Treacherous, with high abv well hidden. Avg 4.76
13 junio 2025. De OkassionalBeer. En copa Teku. Con pipas de calabaza. Preparando curso ITIL 4. Confirmación de que es un birrote y de que deberían haber menos neipa y más black ipas. Avg 4.75
