32oz growler filled at Heinen's in Shaker Hts., Ohio
"Ohio Fresh Hop" is a "Red IPA" featuring nugget hops grown in Ohio.
Growler poured into a tulip. Pours a deep copper with ruby hues and nice clarity; khaki head that fades quickly leaving little retention and lacing but has lots of bubbles racing upwards. The aromas are floral along with lots of caramel malts. Hints of Orange and grapefruit in the mix. Smells nice, but not overwhelming. The flavors seem to follow the nose. Lots of candy along with more caramel malts. Fresh flowers are in the mix. Very earthy. Hints of pine. More orange zest. A little bit of lemon in the finish. Although this has a solid malt backbone, the hops still do their thing. Solid bitterness. Mouthfeel is great. It's medium-bodied with very active carbonation. Very sharp and crisp.
This is a solid brew. Nice hoppy beer that fits perfectly with the fall weather. Maybe it's ultimately not my favorite hoppy brew from Columbus, but it's enjoyable stuff nonetheless.
