Had a taster of this at the brewpub.
A. Pitch black, half finger creamy dark brown head. Minimal lacing but really nice legs....thick, viscous chocolately goodness coats the glass. Looks quite good.
S. Wow, a chocolate dream. Baking, milk, and dark chocolate flare out of my taster. Lots of molasses and vanilla. Just a hint of coffee and some ripe dark fruit.
T. Chocolate, molasses, and light coffee on the front. Then wave after wave of dark fruit and cherry. Wow. Little hop bite at the end. Loving the dark fruit in this. This is a great impy stout. Smoother than smooth.
M. Great. Light carbonation lets the flavors really shine here. A great blend of chocolate, malt, and hops here. Excellent.
O. I may be crazy but methinks this is a world class stout. Rich and smooth but with a perfect hop balance. Loads of dark fruit and chocolate decadence. Great job, CBC!

Thought this was a decent, if unspectacular, RIS. The bar on Russian Imperial Stouts is high and getting higher all the time, and this one might have been quite good a few years ago, but in a market-place crowded with the likes of Bell's Expedition Stout, Founder's Kentucky Breakfast, New Holland Night Tripper and countless others this beer no longer really antes up to the style.
Still, this beer is not bad, and I can't say I regret ordering it. It was dark, with a little head, some roasty aroma, and a clean roasty taste (like a porter) with not a lot else to it. This beer didn't have any alcohol tang, dried fruit, or anything else to it. Mouthfeel was fine; not too thick but certainly not watery. Good, just not great.
I had this on-tap at Barley's Smokehouse on Dublin Rd.
