Description: Appearance is dark brown, opaque and with little to no head. The whiskey-barrel aging is strong on the aroma with underlying hints of vanilla, lactose and chocolate, all forming into a malty whirl. The whiskey is very apparent on the taste but not in a way that makes the beer "hot" - it just adds flavor. Wood, sweetness, chocolate and roasty flavors also apparent, along with some dark fruit notes. Feel is smooth, little carbonation and pretty thick, almost like a stout.
Overall: 4.5 (This beer is very good and I would definitely drink it again) I never really know what a barleywine is going to be like until I drink it. This felt more traditional or what I'd imagine as opposed to some that can be slightly hoppy. This is a malty sipper for sure. CBC's IPAs are generally fantastic, so seeing them flex some non-IPA muscle is great.
