16 FLUID OZ. can
Served in a stemless wine glass
This beer pours black and is topped with a frothy, mocha head that leaves rings of lacing as I imbibe.
Chocolate and malt. Resin and pine.
Chocolate followed quickly by bitter pine. The bitterness does not linger.
Medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel
It's beer away since I have had a black IPA. I remember about 15 years ago when they were the rage. Times have changed, however; well-made black IPAs are still tasty. Columbus always makes quality beer, and this is no exception.

Pint can poured into a tulip:
L: Black with a big, thick head. The head is foamy and a dirt white. Plenty of lacing! Nice rings of lacing for a change.
S: Dark and malty, but I think there is also a lower level hit of tropical hops underneath it.
T: Roasted notes jump out at me right away. There is a strong bit of toasty bitterness that lingers throughout. There really is a citrusy note that I can't recall experiencing from black IPAs I have had in the past. A bit of juice that balances everything out. Some leather and tobacco from the roast as contrast.
F: Full, well-carbonated, with a creamy finish. It is tongue-coating; a bit slick and oily.
Love black IPAs and don't think this would disappoint fans of the style.
