A medium-strong pour released two fingers of creamy light beige foam which quickly sunk to a ring and a thin cap with no lacing. Clear and shiny reddish copper body, red orange in front of flame.

Bold smell of toast, biscuit and cracker greets the nose with medium-low floral hops. A general, fruity smell tricked me into anticipating a sweet taste.

Neutral taste with surprisingly high hop flavor sporting added herbs and spice. Bready malt (wheat & barley with caramel trying for sweetness) is in control. Apple cider, lemon, baked apple and pear appear as dryness kicks in. The finish is malt flavor falling off quickly with hop bitterness reaching above average, a dry spicy bitter aftertaste lingers a while.

Medium-light bodied with mysterious carbonation; it takes a sturdy pour to get things started, it looks like it goes flat but a swish brings back head throughout the drink. Very well balanced, as it dries and becomes bitter the balance remains. True to style, smooth at first with a nice bite at the end.

It's an irish red, and basically a dead ringer for the style (besides a little extra herbal hop bite and a little extra abv than usual, which is actually normal for the modern American take on the style)--so, it's a little "boring" but in a good way. Nice balance of bitter vs. malty, buttery, and relaxed. This is the kind of beer I could imagine some 75 year old man in rural Maine buying every day of his life, except when it's out of stock, at which point he would grumble and begrudgingly pick up some PBR and a single packet of werther's originals instead.

From a 16 oz. can that I sampled on April 30, 2023.

The appearance is a handsome looking dark amber color with red hues underneath a long lasting tan colored head.

The aroma is subtle. I get barley malts, dark bread, earth, and perhaps apple.

The mouthfeel is medium.

The taste is sweet but also subtle like the aroma. The hop presence is earthy and creeps up with a bitterness on the back end. It is easy to drink.

The appearance was a sturdy semi-dark red color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that slid off pretty quick. Not much lace. The aroma had some earthy hops playing with some grassiness. Light floral to herbal sort of quality about it. Sweet wood and a bit of caramel/toffee maltiness. Some biscuits. Sweet estery fruits. The flavor guided the sweetness to round out the prior mentioned aromas together and bring about the herbal to grassy low hop quality rolling all about. No aftertaste. Finish brought together the malts and the low hop quality in fairly nice. The palate was about medium bodied with a good sessionability about it. Low carbonation and a good ABV. Overall, well done Irish red ale that Banded Horn did, I’d have again.

I had this recently at When Pigs Fly. I was told this was a beer for St Patrick's Day.
In a pint glass the beer was a dark reddish/brown color with a small off-white head. There was a little bit of lace.

Earthy hops aroma, a little bit of sweet malt.

A rather nondescript taste. Some hops and kind of a starchy taste.

On the hoppy side.

An OK beer. Not sure if I'd want to have this again.
