I had this on-tap in a taster glass at the brewery.
Appearance: rich deep red hue with a very light haze and a nice white lace left on the glass as the head dissipates. Very attractive indeed.
Smell: light caramel aroma with a bit of an earthy tinge. Subtle, but not bad.
Taste: lightly sweet with a good caramel character and a little biscuit. Hop character is citrusy and a little sweet; subtle but nice. The whole beer is well balanced and very well put-together, and I like it a lot despite it not being my favorite style. I am very pleasantly surprised here.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a fantastic carbonation and a great level of creaminess. I love it!
Overall: I ordered this flight of tasters entirely at the discretion of the brewer. He elected to include this beer, even though I would not normally have chosen a red, and I can see why. It’s a balanced, restrained and quite fine example of the style.
