I had this on-tap in a taster glass at the brewery.
Appearance: dark red-brown with a touch of haze and a thin layer of ivory foam and a nice lace left on the glass. This is a good example of a classic style which doesn’t always get done well by American brewers.
Smell: rich and caramelly with a just a little touch of roast. Kind of like a slightly roast brown ale; I think it’s quite successful.
Taste: quite dry right off the bat, with a good roasty character and a little bit of caramel. There’s a hint of astringency here, but really this is a delicious dry brown porter. You have to love a brewery that has multiple varieties of porter on its regular taplist, and this one is quite good indeed.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and a rich creaminess. I dig it.
Overall: this is a porter I can really get behind. It’s a really classic brown porter with a subtle but satisfying flavor and just the right balance. Delicious and drinkable.
