I had this on-tap in a taster glass at the brewery.
Appearance: dark brown hue with a little bit of haze and a thin layer of ivory foam. A nice lace is left on the glass as the head dissipates. Not bad!
Smell: rich and sweet with an almost molasses character; there’s toffee and caramel in there too. Very good.
Taste: rich and malty right up front with a definite alcohol bite. Sweet with a caramelly and almost toffee-like character; definitely a warming winter brew. The bitterness is slightly rough toward the end, but I like it.
Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a good carbonation and a very nice creaminess. It really works.
Overall: this is a very tasty beer, but there is a pretty strong and somewhat raspy bitterness that comes in right toward the end which negatively impacts quaffability a little bit. Otherwise, it’s a very good beer.
