I had this on-tap in a taster glass at the brewery.

Appearance: dark enough brown to be mostly black; the layer of tan foam dissipated to leave a nice lace on the glass. One thing to say about these Salish Sea beers: they’re attractive.

Smell: roasty and a bit caramelly; not super complex but definitely bringing it in the robustness category.

Taste: quite robust indeed with lots of roastiness and an interesting combination of sweetness and astringency from all the dark-roast malts; the effect is both sweet and dry. There are tiny hints of chocolate with a little ashiness on the side. I think it’s a really good example of a robust porter.

Mouthfeel: medium body with an OK carbonation. Not much in the way of creaminess here, but it’s acceptably interesting.

Overall: I like this beer quite a lot. I’d like to see it at my local pub.
