Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a medium to dark orange red with a quarter finger fizzy, off-white head that dissipates to sparse patches with light lacing. Aroma of biscuit and light caramel malt, red berries and raisin bread. Flavor is dry caramel and light biscuit malt, red berries, raisins and brown bread; toffee develops in the finish. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess. A nice, malty domestic take on the doppelbock style. Pleasant dark fruit and bread character in the malt. Somewhat sweeter than expected, but the deep flavor carries it through. Nicely done and flavorful. This was listed as doppelbock on the website, but as a winter warmer on the brewers list at the brewery. The orange red color does make it look like a warmer, but the flavor is very much a doppelbock. The big ABV is well covered.
