Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz can poured into a snifter. Thanks to my friend Erik for the gift. I do need to say the can states dark beers tend to age well, this isnt really true as a dark english mild probably shouldnt sit around for long. bad advice on the can IMO.
The beer pours a dark chocolate brown color with a foamy tan head of 2 cm that fades slowly with some cratering pockmarks as it settles. There is tight lattice as the foam drops to a sturdy surface layer.
Aroma on this beer is a lot of roasted malt and some dark chocolate. Maybe a little bit of wooden note, even though no barrels were used in the making of the beer.
The first sip reveals a light to average body with soft rolling carbonation. The texture is smooth and coats my palate during each sip.
Flavor is all malt, with dark cocoa and some roasted notes. I also get a bit of dark fruit raisin note, but this is buried and offers just a bit of sweetness in the background.
I get no hops nor alcohol presence as I drink my glass. this is an easy drinking, fairly straightforward porter. Good example for the style and worth trying if you enjoy classic American porters.

had this one as a pour at the brewery. it has a great look. dark and rich. distinct smell which is nice. the taste has a bite but similar to other porters I have had recently so not terribly unique.

L - Black body with a thick, three-finger, chocolate colored head. Minimal lacing.
S - Slight roast smell with hints of chocolate.
T - Follows the smell.
F - Thin body feel with a semi-dry finish.
O - A really nice beer. Not overly robust, but nice. Drinkable.

Pours a clean deep brown to black with a dark tan foamy head that surfaces well with minor lacing. Smells of milk and dark chocolate and an oak tree bark like aroma (does that make sense!?) ...In a good way, I should point out. Taste follows on the chocolate fronts, accompanied by a nice dark cherry sweetness and toasted bread. Feel is smooth, rich, balanced hugging the bitter side from a roasted perspective, and finshes with a cocoa powder like dryness. Overall, this is a wonderful Porter and one I would gladly consume when the call beckons. Cheers!

Wow, and exceptional example of the style.

Poured from a 500 ML bottle into a tulip

Dark in color with a lot of toasty, caramel flavors.
The coffee flavors really come forward with the taste.
Really enjoyed the mouthfeel. Perfect.

Look: Resembles a stout. Head quickly disapates. Pitch black.

Smell: Smokey on the nose. Bitter chocolate, dark fruits such as dates or maybe raisins. Perhaps a hint of maple.

Taste: Dark fruits on the front, hops, bit of bakers chocolate in the middle. Hops on the finish. Seems much more like a stout to me.

Feel: Heavy mouth feel.

Overall: Interesting take on a porter. Seems much more like a stout to me. In every single way. A little too bitter to for my tastes. 6.5/10.

The head goes above the rim of the glass. Tan colored and very lumpy. Deep, dark brown color for the liquid. The lace is extensive streaks and chunky spots.

Darker toasted malts and plenty of semisweet chocolate smells. A bit of cocoa.

The body leans rich, enhanced by the muted carbonation. The flavor starts off like chocolate milk with a touch of lactose and Baker's chocolate. The swallow is closer to powdered cocoa. I get just a touch of hop as well. The aftertaste is similar to the chocolate milk experience. Overall, this is a superior Porter with many interesting subtleties to keep it interesting.

Growler poured into fluted snifter.

Beautiful beer. Thick and near pitch black. Opaque unless held up to bright light. Big thick creamy tan head slowly settles into thick collar of foam.

Roasted malts and bitter cocoa in the aroma.

Flavor is roasty and smooth. Deep bitter cocoa.

Smooth and silky. Nice and full bodied with perfect carbonation for the style.

Overall one of my favorite straight up porters. Exceptional appearance and mouthfeel.
