Two separate mashes were used in the making of this imperial stout. Only the first runnings were used: no sparge. A thirteen hour boil aided in the creation of the pitch black wort, then fermented out with our house yeast in stainless. A lower carbonation combined with bottle conditioning, enhances the lush, viscous mouthfeel. Rich and decadent, reminiscent of blackstrap molasses.

Sampling a 500 ml bottle at cellar temp and poured into my snifter. Bottle was purchased at the brewery in Nov 2022.
The beer pours a dark black coffee color with a creamy tan head of about 2.5 cm. This foams slowly fades to a sturdy surface covering. I get dense lattice if I swirl the glass.
Aroma is malt forward with dark chocolate, fudge, roasted notes and a bit of molasses. Doesnt smell like a sweeter malt beer. no hop hints and the ABV is hidden here.
First sip reveals a medium body with slightly sticky texture, with very fine and barely tingly carbonation. The beer drinks pretty easy for its ABV and heft. Stickiness does remind me that this is a bigger brew.
Nice non-sweetened imperial stout. Feels and tastes olde school with no adjuncts. glad I grabbed this one, its tasty!
Flavor is lots of roasted malt and some light char. Dark chocolate and fudge and molasses notes come together and the roast lingers after the swallow. No hop character and the ABV is hidden.

Stoneface Brewing Co. always makes you think about hoppy brews, but I am starting think they deserve a bunch of respect for how they brew Stouts. This is phenomenal.

Poured into a 20 oz giant tulip not sure when it was bottled. Pours midnight black with a massive 3 plus finger sticky mocha head with amazing retention, leaving behind a few thick streaks of lace. 4.75

Aroma is deep dark chocolate, vanilla bean, roasty coffee, back strap molasses, and toffee. 4.75

Taste follows expresso, vanilla, molasses, and toffee really rich, roasty, and complex. 4.75

Mouthfeel is big, soft creamy carbonation, maybe a little dry, and at 11% it drinks pretty big, with the alcohol well hidden, and goes down very easy. 5

Overall this for me is a world class Imperial Stout and that reminds we why I am often so disappointed with these thin watery Stouts that many other younger breweries are offering these days. This is chewy, not one dimensional, gorgeous with amazing lace and retention, and just down right tasty. Sleep well all, I know I will. 4.75

Picked up a 0.5l bottle ($15) a few weeks ago.... Digging in now!

Pours a dark, dense, nearly opaque brown. Has a nice but thin dark beige head, mostly a rim-job. Has a light bit of lace as well. Smells of roasty coffee and slightly bitter dark choco, albeit all is mild. Body is medium-plus, easily, bordering on being chewy. It also heads downwards verrry smoothly!

Taste has more syrupy, dark choco, like Bosco, at the outset. Has a smidge of molasses along with intimations of dark fruit. Has a nice level of semi-sweetness, but never gets cloying. A rich, smooth, warming Imperial Stout.... Well done! Prosit!
