Poured from a 12 OZ can into a pint glass. The appearance is a dark brown with a small tan head. The aroma is roasted malt. The taste matches the nose.

12 ounce bottle - $2.79 at Total Wine & More in Greenville, South Carolina.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body with a wispy, light ecru head.

Smell: Minor chocolate, some dark loaf bread and subdued roast. Slight, distant sourish accent. Small sniff of plum. Light vanilla in the nose.

Taste: Chocolate, cola-esque and a hint of coffee taste coalesce to give an impression of everyday Tootsie Rolls. Moderately sweet. A minor hint of astringency as the vanilla creeps in. A little plumskin. Semi-dry finish with some middling roastiness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: Not bad, not great. The commenter below is quite right, it's no Founders of Fuller's.

From 12 oz bottle with no date stamp. Served in a lager glass.

Appearance: clear ruby-brown body with lots of visible carbonation. Large, fluffy beige head and decent lacing.

Smell: Sour and baked grains.

Taste: sweet, medium and dark roasted malts with faint spicy hops and a suggestion of smoke. Nice roasty aftertaste with plenty of chocolate fades too quickly. Flavor strengthens and improves with warming.

Mouthfeel: medium+ body with medium carbonation.

Overall: Worth trying but its no Founders or Fullers.

Pours - deep brown you can see a little light through it, thin tan head that quickly dissipates not much lacing.

Smell - I notice a little bit of chocolate first with a hint of vanilla thrown in. It kind of smells like a s'mores. I also get a whiff of caramel.

Taste - The chocolate is the main thing that sticks out in the taste much like the smell, the vanilla is also an after thought. The chocolate is more of a bitter chocolate I also get some coffee and a little caramel.

Fell - Medium bodied a little more carbonated that I would have liked and a little bitter.

Overall- A decent beer glad I was able to try it.

My second outing with River Rat Brewing and I'm not disappointed yet. Mellow with a slightly smoky flavor. Some points off for a slightly bitter aftertaste but still an excellent example of this style.
