The look and aroma are what you would expect from an imperial stout such as this. Dark, coffee, and chocolatey. The initial taste for me was predominantly coffee heavily roasted, almost burnt. The slightest of alcohol burn lingers as well. You can get some of the expected sweetness at the end but I am a little disappointed with the balance. Does improve with warming. Can from 3/11/19.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a half finger dark khaki head that dissipates to a thick cap with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt with some light biscuit, coffee, dark chocolate and molasses. Flavor is dark toasted and caramel malt, dark chocolate, vanilla and a hint of peanut butter. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Promises a big pastry stout and delivers; the pastry is a chocolate glazed donut. There is a light nuttiness too that is quite good. Pastry stouts are my guilty pleasure, I have to bring them home in a plain paper bag. I like them and I like this one quite a bit. Great chocolate, coffee and malt. Nicely done.

Imperial pastry-style stout featuring chocolate, coffee, molasses, brown sugar, and lactose sugar...
Definitely sweet but not what you might expect from that ingredient line-up... Pours pitch black in a pint, producing aromas of coffee, chocolate, and molasses... Flavors follow suit, rich and smooth, but with enough drying and a hint of char to keep the sugars in check... Big chocolate flavors shine... Body is big but not sloppy, sweet up front, then closing out on the finish with a coating of bittersweet chocolate...
