Pours a handsome dark coppery amber in the Watou chalice with a modest mustache of foam. This was more sudsy in the glass at the tasting room, but there's plenty of carbonation on the tongue.
The flavors start with some warm caramel-tinged malt. It's just slightly sweet with that winey sensation. There is a brambly hoppy note with some leafy aromatics. The abundance of roasted yields some toffee flavors which goes nicely with the yeasty flavors and the touch of hops. More dry at the finish with the usual Belgian notes.
There is more bitterness from the yeast than from the hops, but it's a totally drinkable warm-toned Pale Ale with Belgian inspiration. From the big jug purchased at the little brewery just off Highway 99 in South Park, Seattle.
