A 500ml bottle with a BB of Feb 2018. Purchased recently from Home Bargains. The label calls it a premium amber ale and promises a complex character that will 'make you fall in love with beer again'.

A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. A crystal-clear amber colour with good carbonation. Forms a smallish head of creamy white foam that lasts for a moment or so before subsiding to a patchy surface layer.

S: Aroma of mild caramel malt with hints of faint grain, subtle ale yeast and vague stewed leaves. Bland and insipid - unimpressive.

T: Tastes of watery caramel malt with notes of mild grain, light ale yeast and faint stewed leaves. An odd marzipan twang lurks in the background. Vaguely sweet, with a subtle bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and a thin, watery body. Aftertaste of lifeless caramel malt, subtle ale yeast and faint stewed leaves.

O: Meh - seriously underwhelming. Looks OK, while the aroma and flavour are dull and anemic. Subpar body; thin and watery. A classic example of twiggy brown beer that lacks any vitality or depth of character. This definitely won't make you fall in love with beer again - give it a miss.

Served cool from 500ml bottle into pint mug. This beer is brewed under the Madness Brewing Co. label and the beer is named after the song by the Ska band Madness.

A) Light golden in colour, slight haze, thin white head, only a few bubbles.

S) Slight hint of English hops.

T) Good. Refreshing but light hops in the front, followed closely by more bitter hop flavour that linger. Light caramel malts in the middle.

M) Refreshing and the carbonation is spot on. The bitter aftertaste lingers too long and puts it out of balance.

O) A good one to chug down to quench a thirst as opposed to sipping slowly to savour sophisticated flavours. Recommended.
