a really fantastic wheatwine aged in bear creek whiskey barrels, at least the edition they had on when i visited was aged in such barrels, what a beer! perhaps the best i have had from these guys, but they have stepped their game up across the board lately, no doubt about that. the name doesnt make much sense to me, i mean sure it does, but nothing slippery about this, its sticky and dense and huge, but its great! notes of sweet vanilla, floral honey, frosted miniwheat cereal, granola, and warming alcohol in the nose, with most of it transferring to the flavor as well. a nuttier grain complexion than i am used to in high wheat brews, toasted or something, kind of richer than many, even though this doesnt have a ton of color to it, it has a nice malty heartiness i was not all the way expecting. its long boiled tasting and concentrated too, sugary in the middle, hot enough to dissolve it at the end, lots of vanilla here, and a cool maturity from the whiskey, which helps integrate all the flavors, and adds a little earthiness from the oak and barrel char. bear creek does some of the best spirits in denver, and the quality comes through in this beer really well, maybe not a super long ageing, but i dont want to lose the character of the base beer either, so i think its well timed. it sure it boozy, but thats the style, and they have done a great job with this one. it would be a good candidate for their next fancy bomber release!
