Aged in used whiskey barrels for 2 months. It's the sister beer to Whiskey Red; damn good too.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown with little light transmission in the glass and sparse patches of bubbles with slight lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, whiskey, faint cocoa. Flavor is dark toasted malt, whiskey, light oaky vanilla and cocoa, a pleasant dry caramel character develops then fades away into a whisky dominated finish. Medium bodied with light creaminess and sharp carbonation. I was surprised to run across this bottle, having not seen anything from Burdick in a while, but I'm a sucker for BA stouts and had never tried theirs. I was a little puzzled when I go home and saw the bottle (bottle manufacturing code, not bottling code) was from 2015 as was the date of the artwork on the bottle. Wondering if I had gotten an old, old bottle, I looked at Burdick's website, which had been taken over by a bogus gambling entity; obviously abandoned. I eventually found they had closed their brewery, but were still going to barrel age some beers. Recent reviews on BA seemed to indicate that there had been a production run a few months ago, so I'm now confident I got a recent bottling; I suspect the bottles are just old stock from this small brewery. Anyway, I remember getting the Whiskey Red from these guys and it was not that complex, but I liked it. The same could be said for this stout. The malt is somewhat light for a barreled stout, but the flavor is pleasant, if uncomplicated. The whiskey is quite forward and is supported through most of the taste until the finish where is it is left somewhat stark. Delivers the whiskey, but needs a little more heavy duty malt to bring out the malt flavors to balance the whiskey. I liked it okay, and will try out some of their other offerings if I cross paths.
