well, these are everywhere now, so i suppose they are here to stay. this one has some real high points and some less exciting elements, seems a little rough around the edges, but will no doubt appear to devout fans of the style. it has an awesome pale yellow straw color to it, soft and muted, some starchy grains in here for sure, i heard they use a lot of new york state grain in this, which is cool. i cant smell much malt but i can taste more than i normally can in the style, which keeps this tasting like beer first, a rarity in a milkshake beer in my experience. the orange element is clean and fresh in nose and taste, a natural fruity vibe to it and the right mix of sweet and acidic, they could have stopped there. the lactose and all the hops kind of muddle an otherwise pretty picture for me, the hops are overly juicy with the citrus and really linger on the tongue after the swallow, not bitter but seems overdosed a bit. the lactose makes the whole thing sweeter than i think it needs to be, the fruit could have done that on its own. overall i like the malt side of this best, but think the beer has a lot of promise, its not overly desserty, and it all tastes fresh, but a little refinement will take this to the next level...
