i thought this was really great. i have not seen coffee in this style before i do not think, and frankly it may have never crossed my mind, but its wonderfully well done, a good nuanced espresso type coffee in here rather than something one dimensional, bitter, and black, it plays so well with the bubblegum fruitiness of the begian yeast esters and the body of the strong pale base brew, it really is magnificently executed. the tripel on its own im sure would be good, it has all the elements, including a little spice and herbal character to the yeast and enough residual honey sort of sweetness to balance out the intensity of the coffee. the coffee hits on cocoa and blueberry and light smoke to me, all a bit juxtaposed to a classic belgian tripel, but it melds together amazingly well. good body to this but it isnt heavy, and the coffee dryness helps shutdown the sweetness the style usually finishes with. back and forth between light and rich and dark and earthy, wonderful and complex balance. my first beer from twin leaf, absolutely wonderful!
