A 330ml bottle with a BB of Sept 2014, so it's just out of date. Picked up a while back from the York Beer & Wine shop. Described on the label as an amber ale with a balanced malt/hop character; hopped with Northdown.
A: Poured into a tulip. Bottle conditioned. A rich, hazy orange-amber hue with fine sediment and light carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding.
S: Aroma of grainy malt with hints of husks, faint caramel, fruity ale yeast, a twinge of sourness and subtle stewed leaves. Not bad.
T: Tastes of grainy malt with a lingering dry finish. Notes of husky grain, caramel, fruity ale yeast, a touch of sourdough, earthiness and mild stewed leaves. Faintly sweet, followed by a restrained, leafy bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with soft carbonation and great body for the strength. Mildly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of grainy malt, earthy yeast and subtle fruitiness.
O: Rather nice - delicate but easy drinking. Looks OK, if a tad undercarbonated. The aroma and flavour are a pleasant blend of grainy malt and fruity yeast notes with light hopping. Lovely body. The overall impression this beer creates is one of understatement, yet it is well crafted. Calls to mind a good German lager. Worth sampling if you come across it.
