Very tasty, great for a coffee porter. It's what you would hope it would be. I enjoy it. Not much to review about it, it's pretty great. It's smooth, easy to drink, worth trying if your a coffee fan. It's solid

Pours a dark brown with a thin, mocha head. Good lacing.
Awesome smell of Carmel malt, black licorice, brown sugar, coffee.
Great roasted char, coffee, toffee, black licorice and bitter hops.
Big mouthfeel. Another great on from Transient.

On tap.
Nice assertive porter. Strong roast flavors and bitterness, dark coffee and black roasted char.
Quite robust, some might find it borderline "too harsh", but I like it.

Pours black with two fingers of dense, rocky, khaki-colored foam. Head retention is great. Aroma is nutty, caramely, bready, earthy malts with bits and pieces of toffee, caramel and brown sugar. It's lightly bitter, with malts creating a firm base. Flavor profile is caramely, bready, nutty, earthy, toasty, roasty malts. Toffee and caramel add a little smoothness at the end, to balance out the dark and bitter opening. Mouth feel is velvety, and nearing on thick. Overall, a splendid porter that hits straightforward notes, delivering a delightful experience.

Served in a 15.5oz Spiegalau tulip from a 16oz can.

Bottled fall 2016; drank 11/6/15 @ the Yarchives.

Black appearance.

A rough pour yielded a huge, noisy dark khaki head; a thick curtain of tree-rung lace.

Fresh earth, black licorice & bakers chocolate notes in the nose.

Medium thick, creamy mouthfeel.

Bakers chocolate & fresh earth flavors up front; black licorice notes on the finish.

Earthy & robust; almost a baby RIS. Challenging, but tasty. I'd have another...

Look was dark black with a nice tan head
smell: dark chocolate, tabacco, a little vanilla and coffee very roasty
taste: bitter chocolate, followed by some fruit sweetness and then some bitterness finishes it off
The mouthfeel was smooth and lingering.
This was a big Porter along the order of Founders porter. Big and bold but so drinkable. Very nicely balanced.

Another tip of the cap and tip of the tip to Joe for this beauty, eh!

Henry has quite the stature. About as dark and as black a beer I've seen. A solid and smooth mass of deep and starless space. With some serious dedication, I'm able to discover chestnut highlights on the surface and base thanks to some lighting. The beer has exceptional clarity, in fact. Deeply tanned foam sits above like a thin layer of frosting, and it stays there. It also stays spackled to the glass. Ring after ring of it.

This is a bold smelling Porter. Sopping tobacco leaves comes in first and make it well known. Dark chocolate, leather, and wet tree bark ride the next wave in, with a dash of vanilla on the way back out.

I was thinking this might be a bit sweet. It's not. Much more robust than the aroma led me to believe. Deeply charred toast, even a tad smokey. Bakers chocolate nibs, roasted almonds, and an iron like metallic finish. Roasty and toasty from start to end.

Quite a vigorous beer here. Strong and healthy amounts of roasted qualities are almost balanced by an unrecognizable sweetness. It's bitter edge is derived from said roasted influences more than hops, I'd say. Hops don't even seem to come into the equation really, and that is just fine by me. Yet, Henry still manages a smoothness about it. A level of creaminess that makes this dangerously drinkable, and a dry finish even moreso.

A porter like this is what blurs the lines of them and stouts. A porter like this is just what I like. Bold, strong, robust, instense, but classy. Thanks again Joe.

Cheers.

Iron & Glass - Romeoville, IL

Henry is a dapper looking dandy. It's as dark as you'll get out of a porter, nearly black, and sucking up the light. The pour produces a cascade effect with the mocha tinted head. The foam is dense, settling to a thick one finger cap of pure silk. It leaves behind chunky sheet lacing on the way down. A beer doesn't get a whole lot better looking than this guy.

The nose is as rich and decadent as the looks. There's a solid dose of roast off the bat and when combined with the bittersweet chocolate that's present provides a nice bitterness. Macerated blackberries brings a touch of sweet and fruit while a whisper of strong, black coffee runs the edges. A sturdy pine driven hoppiness cleans it all up. This is a stout porter. It brings about the depth. This falls in line with the Founder's porters of the world as opposed to the Eddy Fitz's. Big and bold.

Moderate roast and that bittersweet chocolate get things moving again while an abundance of pine wraps itself around the entirety. Those macerated blackberries add a flash of sweetness in the middle that's quickly overtaken by the assertive roast and pine bitterness. Some strong coffee here, some char there. A touch of lime peel adds some brightness, from the hop profile. This is a punch in the mouth of a porter.

The body is as plush and luxurious as you would expect. It's a couple notches about moderate in weight with a soft, slow moving carbonation that keeps this beer lingering. The roast and pine bitterness grows with each drink and eventually becomes a little taxing toward the end of 16 ounces. Even though that bitterness builds it's still a fairly easy beer to put away.

Henry is a big, bold, badass porter. It shows off a ton of depth. It's nuanced like a sledgehammer. It's good to see this beer canned and will be in my fridge from time to time as it's released.

A: Pours an opaque jet black in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and faint dark cola brown colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense sudsy foamy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a large patch of thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of dark roasted + charred malts with minimal amounts of sweetness and light aromas of earthy hops. Hints of dark chocolate and vanilla.

T: Upfront there are moderate to strong flavors of dark roasted + charred malts with minimal amounts of sweetness. Light to moderate flavors of dark chocolate, vanilla, and earthy hops. Subtle hints of dark fruit (plum + fig). Slightly stronger than moderate amounts of roasty bitterness which lingers well through the finish.

M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth with hints of dryness in the finish.

O: A very enjoyable straight up porter without any adjuncts or barrel-aging. Really nice complex malts flavors with the perfect amount of roasty bitterness. Enjoyable with really well hidden alcohol.

Pour is nearly black, with a rich tan head. Aromas are heavy, smoky char and stone fruit.

The smoky char follows through on the taste, with the stone fruit in the background , and subtle chocolate notes. An outstanding porter, IMHO.
