Pours a hazy unfiltered golden color with a huge pillowy head. Incredible head retention. Tons of sticky white lacing. Almost a full finger and a half head sticks around for the entire beer. Also lots of dirty looking sediment is noted in the head. "Rustic" indeed ...
Smell is remarkably skunk at first. It smells more like a lager than an ale. Bit of funk with some mild citrus hoppy notes.
Taste is rather mild, strong array of unique malty notes, slight bitter hoppy-ness on the finish. Very grainy flavor - the malts are very earthy and rustic. Reminiscent of a loaf of whole wheat bread. There is an ever so slight funk. Taste overall is a bit watery even for a pale ale.
Feel is light and drinkable, yet remarkably full bodied for a low ABV beer. Medium carbonation.
Overall a unique take on the style.

500ml bottle. Served in a snifter glass.
Pours a slightly hazy straw yellow body with a slight orange hue. Two finger thick white head, a bit overly effervescent, longer retention than I'd like, fair bit of lacing. Smells of wheat germ, pumpernickel bread, biscuit, a bit of leather and lemon. Crisp graininess. Flavour is similarly grainy, mild earthiness, slightly floral bitterness, wheat germ, lemon. Mouthfeel is lighter bodied, good depth for a 4% beer. Mild earthy bitterness on the finish, touch of leather.
