The pour is darned close to pure black, with a dark brown head that appears on the pour and quickly disappears, leaving no lacing.
The taste is mostly Junie; the chocolate covered caramel and French bread. No discernible hops or bitterness at all. Brown sugar comes to mind. Lactose and croissants, and a wall of rye that, instead of providing a wall to keep it from being too sweet, served as a discordant aspect. Yet not to much.
The feel is lighter than most Buckley, which is almost syrupy.
OA, this is one of the better offerings from Transient, really quite good.

Poured out of a 16.9 fl. oz. bottle into a Transient teku glass on Labor Day 2020. Over a year old.
Pours a midnight black with a finger of a fizzy, soda-like head that’s a reddish, dark mocha color that dissipated immediately leaving no lacing behind.
Aroma definitely leans more vanilla than any of the other adjuncts, like concentrated vanilla bean. Good amount of caramel and maple syrup too. Milk chocolate, brownie, light coffee, oak tannin, bourbon spirit, light nondescript fruitiness. Very sweet aroma as expected, but wish there was a bit more balance there.
Taste brings more balance than the aroma indicated. The vanilla is huge, but the coffee and barrel come through much more to even out the sweetness. Vanilla bean ice cream, concentrated vanilla bean, milk chocolate ganache, 70% dark chocolate, chocolate chip cookie, brownie, creme brûlée, caramel, roasted coffee, maple syrup, maple candy, oak tannin and char, bourbon spirit, roasted malt, tobacco, light black cherry.
High medium body. Medium carbonation. Slightly creamy, slick, quite sticky. The barrel seemed to thin this out just a touch. Could benefit from a thicker body and feel.
Transient kills the barrel aged pastry game and this is proof. Quietly one of the better ones of this style that they have done. Love the heavy vanilla presence as it warmed...came off as real vanilla bean too which is great and went really well with the maple, caramel, coffee, chocolate, and varying barrel characteristics. Outstanding.
