Pours onyx black with mahogany brown around the edges and a dark tan head that sizzles a bit before it disappears. Beautiful impy stout. The nose has some barrel notes, substantial maple and rich cocoa aromas, a nice bit of vanilla, and a bit of peanut butter. O. M. G.
The taste somehow surpasses the nose, with the maple, rich cocoa, and vanilla shining most prominently, but there’s still plenty of room for the barrel and subtle peanut butter flavor and a welcome little char note. This is absolutely delicious.
The mouthfeel is rich and creamy, perfect for this beer. Transient does this style at an incredibly high level, IMHO.

The 2021 seems to be a different variant-this is described as “blended young and maple bourbon barrel aged imperial rye stout with cocoa nibs, salted caramel, vanilla and peanuts.” Dirty looking, tan head that dissipates quickly, and if looks like an oil slick on top of the glass. Scents blend well-maple, cocoa, and peanuts are all present. Flavors are all strong as well, nothing overpowering the others. A bit viscous and definitely boozy. Tasty, but maybe the weakest of the Transient stouts I’ve had so far.

Black with hints of brown shades near the top, light brown ring. Aromas of peanut butter, chocolate and vanilla. Taste is more like a chocolate covered peanut butter wafer but it has a hint of metal in the aftertaste. Depth is also lacking. Feel is thin yet heavy, sweetness cloys a bit coupled with metallic influence. Too bad
