We took our Buckley grain bill, removed all the darkest malts but kept our base mostly unchanged. We then booked the thing for about 6 hours, (just like normal Buckley) then fermented it cold and layered it for nearly 2 months. The result is a nearly perfect styled German Doppelbock that we could not be more proud of. A beer deserving of the pup on the label.

Pours an effervescent hazel with 2 fingers of mocha colored head. Below average head retention & lacing

S: Brown bread, cola

T: Follows the nose, some brown sugar & dryness, plus leafy hops up front. Toastyness, brown sugar, leafy & woody hops, plus brown bread & just a hint of smokeyness as the beer warms up, plus dryness. Finishes dry, toasty with brown sugar & woody hops

MF: Medium body, near zero carbonation

A solid Doppelbock, drinks a little slow, due to the dryness

This pours a very rich dark brown color with a substantial, slightly creamy tan head. The nose is packed with toffee notes and a bit of grass. Lovely nose on this one.

The taste follows the nose, with rich toffee notes and the aforementioned grassy note. The mouthfeel is rich and slightly creamy, fitting this substantial doppelbock quite well. A pleasure to drink.

Appearance - The beer was murky brown in color with a soft white head crowning the glass.

Smell - The nose radiated roasted malts with a hint of coffee and sweetness.

Taste - The profile was almost syrupy with chewy malts. To put it another way, it was like liquid dark bread. This bread, needed no chewing. It could have used it more sweetness, the mouth profile lingered nicely.

Mouthfeel - There was some viscosity in the body of this one. Modest carbonation filled the glass.

Overall - I am so glad Transient made a doppelbock.
