Beer & baseball with the unusual suspects out west and then slightly back east some is winding down, true. Last of 8 days out and about; Orange County, San Diego, and now the greater Phoenix area. As such, we drove points south today or so I am to understander. I don’t know what I was expecting but what I was not expecting was this. There are birds. They are rescues. They are caged. There’s a good story here…
In an unassuming corridor, through an amazing outdoor space, and into the bar space. It’s a decent sized room. Black concrete pebbled topped ‘L’ shaped bar with an inverted crescent on the end; glossy black brick base, and wide foot bar. Seating for a baker’s dozen on hightop black leather chairs. Horizontal plank barback wall with a mirrored steel framed shelving piece fronting with booze & glassware. Untapped board mounted on center listing beer, wine, & cider, and smaller flats to the sides. Cans & scotch tubes lined atop, and cupboard & cooler space below. A heavy chain drop glassware rack sits over the end of the bar. Black box in the corner with a row of 10 logo handles on a stainless panel on the short side, and a pair of the same for 20 more on the long stretch over racked glassware and shelved booze, and Perch merch displayed above.
Black concrete floors, rafter ceilings over black canvas ceilings, with ductwork, spinnys, & mounted spots. White painted brick walls on the ends and behind us. More flats on both walls and off a center pillar, and a projector screen in the mix there. Drop cylinder lamps tracing the bar, a few birdcage lamps above, and some wall mount lights. A bit of old signage on the far wall, slight shelves with bric a brac, and growls lining the sills up high. A dozen tables off the bar; low, hightop, recs, squares, some in pairs. And 3 roll up doors behind me to the exterior space (but we’ll get to that).
27 house beers up (and a handful of guest ciders). It’s a good beer list end to end. About a 1/3 of them hoppys, a half dozen in the amber – red – brown – porter – stout run, sours, and hey, they Lager, too. I got into a few, sure (Air Time, Munich Dunkel, 5.5%, bready, sweet, toasty, quite nice; Bird Café, Brown Ale, 8%, with cinnamon and stuff, not my jam; Der Vogel, Pilsner, 6.5%, listed as a Pilsner, but I see cans on line that say it’s a Festbier which makes sense, as it’s big and bocklike; Nug in a Rug, WC IPA, 8.4%, perfect; Warm Winter’s Night Dream, English Strong Ale, 8.5%, it’s like a Harpoon Winter Warmer and not for the 107 degrees it is today). Air Time Munich Dunkel & Nug in a Rug WC IPA for the wins.
As food was in order, I perused the menu some. The seasonal salad with Arugula (it’s a veg-e-ta-ble), pickled fennel, strawberries, peaches, & pistachios sounded really good but I went with the green chili pork tortillas (I needs it), and they were excellent, like actual fire, BOOM!
The outside space is spectacular. Rounded brick courtyard with a step up center section with nearly a dozen and half 2-seat mesh metal tables under trellis with intertwined trees & vines, bright red umbrellas, & strung lighting. An amazingly manicured space with little planter areas along the perimeter. Someone put a lot of love into this. It’s fantastic. 4 dozen+ mesh mix & match tables all around and the large birdcages here & there for the rescues (some separate & some together).
Ventured upstairs along one of the staircases at both ends, it’s rooftop fun below a sun shade lined I-beam structure. A large rectangular concrete topped bar, steel spiderweb mesh base, seating for upwards of 30 on wood chairs. Rows & perimeter clusters of red fabric couch & cushy seating wicker furniture, a handful of tables, a corner taco truck, and a stage for band play on one end.
Danielletender today, she is goods. Had a few well made beers here today, and the food was boss. Great venue, amazing space.

Love this place, had a few Air Times and a Two Cents on the way to the airport and the green chili pork which was excellent. Birds everywhere!
Worth stopping for food, beer and birds!

Cool brewery/ parrot sanctuary one block off the main drag in downtown Chandler. Entry portico in a wall of large bird cages goes through the patio to the bar and inside dining area. L-ish shaped bar is on the right. About 2 dozen beers on tap, I got a crowler of Wild Ostrich to go, and it was very nice. Also got the Brussels sprouts & Pork belly which was very tasty. Friendly efficient service amid the chatter of many large parrots. I look forward to returning post covid and hangout with the birds.

Visited The Perch with Da Boss for lunch today.
Vibe was very cool as you walk thru the outdoor dining area that is well covered by a canopy of trees and shade screens. Bird cages are throughout the area containing the jungle bird varieties that are rescue birds - very cool!
Indoor dining room was very nice, kind of rustic. TV's throughout were a bit of a detraction from the overall indoor/outdoor setup.
Quality of the beer was good. Da Boss enjoyed her Perch blonde ale and the two brews i had were solid.
Service was good. The young server was very enthusiastic about the Perch brews to the point he was a bit annoying...guess i am not used to that young enthusiasm in my advancing years!
Selection of 39 brews and ciders was very impressive with solid house brews and guest beers.
Food was very good as well as i enjoyed the Brew burger and Da Boss had the chicken sandwich which was good.
Overall i would be up for going back even though it is 42 mile trip from North Phoenix. Recommended!

Very good beer selection (30+ taps) - lots of varieties too (they must have added some taps since the last review).
Every beer is available in a 5oz pour for $2 to $4. I love that format, as I get to try a bunch of beers without getting tipsy.
Big TVs playing sports inside, music playing outside with the birds....
Speaking of birds, thats the theme, There are many big birds in big cages and they can be a bit loud and slightly stinky. The biggest drawback for us were the bugs- I assume the bugs were there because of all of the greenery. Our legs got bitten several times while sitting outside, which is a very rare occurance out here.
Many of the other patrons (primarly old ladies) were there having lunch and to see the birds, I'm guessing they weren't drinking much craft beer.
I'd give this place a 4.75 out of 5 if it were a standard bar, but I probably won't be back due to the birds.

I saw this place on BA when passing through the Phoenix area.
First, to find it, believe your GPS and turn down the dusty alley next to the abandoned building/construction site that looks like something out of Beirut in the '80s. Trust me. The alley does have a street sign saying "Wall St", and once you pull in you'll see the two-story beer garden and bar inundated with greenery and flowing water. It was very cool and relaxing on the evening I went, despite it having been 110 deg outside earlier in the day. There was a blues guitarist performing in the ground floor beer garden that night and he was enjoyable, but the sound system probably could have been turned down a notch or tow to promote conversation. There was a friendly macaw in a cage adding some tropical sound effects as well.
The food menu was small but inventive and the dish I had was very tasty and fresh. The waiter was attentive. The prices were reasonable.
They had about 20 beers on tap, which included 5 or 6 of their own beers along with mostly West Coast craft brewers. They also had a few bottled craft beers. I'd summarize the menu as mostly IPAs with a smattering of other styles. That may be good for their business model, given the current popularity of IPAs, but it didn't do a lot for variety, especially if (like me) you are not a hophead. The house beers were characterized by original blends of spices, fruits and wood aging. I found them fresh and well-made but too heavy on the spices for my taste. I did like the fact that you could order a 5 oz sample size of any of the draught beers, and they were willing to give free tastes to help you decide on a beer to order. All beers I tried seemed fresh and well-maintained and the glassware was generic but well shaped for the full-flavored beers on the menu.
Overall, I found The Perch to be a pleasant, slightly quirky place to hang out with a good, but not outstanding beer selection.
