so this brewery is part of mistys steakhouse, sort of a weird arrangement from what i can gather, but also kind of neat, in that its a rather corporate looking setup, but this beer is original, and its rad to have house beers in a place like this instead of pseudo-craft garbage that is everywhere else. this is their normal robust porter, which i gather is an all the time beer for them, brewed with local coffee from cultiva roasters in town (a worthy place for sure on its own!). the beer is slick and brown but kind of flat and while there is a nice rich coffee aroma to it, the beer is insanely sugary, and even a half pint felt like a lot because of it. i liked the lower alcohol and the intensity of the coffee, but it was way too malty sweet and not done fermenting, with a strong vanilla note, a kiss of maple, and some cocoa too, but coffee over all of it, and a ton of residuals. more carbonation would help this, but not as much as some more time in the fermenter would. the coffee saves it i think, and i am afraid without it this would be not nearly as good. neat use of local coffee, and a better than average beer overall. nice afternoon pick me up, but not yet all the way dialed in...
