These guys make great beer, and this is one of their biggest and baddest. Super black, fairly thick, with a short mocha colored head, a somewhat intimidating pour. Smells like burnt black malt, high char, carbon, bitter chocolate, earthy coffee, and a warming alcohol soothe. Very little sweetness in the middle here, none of that caramel or molasses malty center, it sticks to its dark bitter toasty guns all the way through. Chocolate in cocoa in form is what I get at the bottom, unmalted roast barley, unbrewed coffee, some raisin and dried cherry, but not sweet, just the flavor layers. Smooth and fuller bodied but not as thick and sticky as it looks, still with some carbonation and a nice dryness. There is an alcohol presence here for sure, but it makes sense, not too harsh or huge for the beer. Drinks actually a little easier than you would think for its strength, definitely wintery and hearty though. I love the beer these guys make, and I love the name of this one. Classic and well built stout.

From a 22 ounce bomber, this brew is utterly black, with a cream-colored head. The aroma is intense...port-like, with raisins and booze up front....a bit of nutty earthiness, and malt...roasted flavors and dark fruity esters. The taste is warming, a little bitter, and has an appealing depth of complexity. Malt comes out more in the flavor, along with some with some coffee and chocolate...wood and earth. Nice. Full in body and intense in flavor. Nice.

L: pours almost black, and is black in the glass. It pours a very dark, almost black head that fades fast
S: dark roast with dark fruit but with some bittering notes
T: big bitter chocolate, dark fruit notes
F: medium thickness, but smooth
O: it's an above average beer, but nothing crazy

Pours black and thick. Light sucking. 1 finger dark khaki head is dense. Except for the color, it almost looks like heavy cream floating on top of the fresh milk in a bulk tank. I've never seen a head like this, it just doesn't fade at all. Incredible retention. Thick lacing when swirled but it does slide down pretty quick.
Oak, caramel, roasted malt, and vanilla on the nose. Very rich and heavy. Just a hint of smoke and earth. Milk chocolate and coca powder.
Very oak-y on the tongue. Rich and creamy. Vanilla, toasted malt, and caramel. Milk chocolate. Towards the end, it gets a bit raw and earthy. Leather comes through. Smoke, maybe a bit of tobacco.
Rich, thick, full bodied mouth feel. Very creamy but with a rawness I can't quite describe. Oak really lingers along with the chocolate which is slightly surprising as the chocolate wasn't one of the more prominent flavors. Mild bitterness towards the end.
I'm super impressed by this beer. Usually straight oak aging doesn't do much for me compared to bourbon/whiskey barrel. A lot of times the barrel doesn't shine and is overshadowed. This, you get big barrel characteristics. I still can't get over the retention of the head. Great beer.

Poured a jet black color with a small tan head. Great roasted aroma with a touch of toastiness. This is a big, full-flavored stout with tons of roasted malt with a slight touch of sweet chocolate.
