After a lil 6-month nap in J. Rieger rye barrels, this stout wakes up bold and ready to party. Think layers of rich chocolate and roasted malt, finished with a playful rye-spice kick. It’s warm, smooth, and just boozy enough to keep things interesting; like a dessert, a campfire, and a nightcap all rolled into one

Poured from 500 ML bottle into tumbler glass at 64°. It is very dark walnut in color with a half finger cap of frothy, light mocha foam that eventually dissipated leaving clouds at the top of the pour. It has a fragrant smell of roasted malt, toffee, chocolate, leather, nuts, and a good dose of whiskey. At first, the taste is fairly sweet with notes of chocolate and caramel/toffee. But the initial sweetness is quickly balanced by the Rieger Rye Whiskey. The impact of the barrel aging is strong. When first poured it was fairly boozy but it mellowed as it breathed in the glass. Other additions to the taste include charred nuts and hints of earthy peat, anise, and tobacco smoke. This Stout has a pleasantly viscous feel with moderate carbonation, and it drinks big for 9% ABV. Overall, Logboat has brewed a very fine Stout. For those who favor Rye Whiskey, it is well-worth seeking out although it isn't clear whether it is a one-time release or will be brewed again.

500ml bottle. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It left sticky patches of lace on the glass. It smelled of whiskey, vanilla, charred oak, chocolate and toffee. Great balance of booziness, chocolate, toffee, vanilla and roastiness.
