From a 22oz bottle
Brewed with Maine Elderberries and Honey
Pours a murky brown color with a small head, no lacing on the glass.
Smell is mostly roasted malt but picking up some subtle fruity esters that elevates it above the normal brown ale aroma, slight honey presence adds to the complexity.
Taste starts out with a roasted malt front, could be a touch nuttier but it's not advertising itself as a nut brown ale, the sweetness then kicks in with light touches of honey and a mild fruity flavor from the elderberries, the sweetness and fruitiness is not overwhelming or cloying so it avoids the typical pitfalls (especially compared to beers that use artificial flavorings), carbonation is medium-low with a normal body.
Far better than their namesake beer and above average for a normally bland style of beer.
