The appearance was a nice looking dark amber color with a touch of transparency. A bar pour's kind of slim white foamy head swiftly slid off. Barely any lace.
The aroma had some crisp semi-sweet biscuits, dark bread, toast, some caramel malts, faint floral and grassy hop features.
The flavor absolutely yields towards the malty side in a mostly clean way. Floral and grassy hops play ever so slightly underneath. Mellow aftertaste of malts, clean.
The mouthfeel was between light and medium bodied with a wonderful sessionability about it, in which, that should be the case with the style. Very smooth all around with some dark toast in a mellow finish.
Overall, I'd say pretty nice as an English dark mild ale. Pass the fish n' chips, please!

A pale mild ale served on-tap at the brewpub.
A: Oh Be Joyful is a golden amber color, clear with a thin white head. As that head recedes, patches of lace are left behind.
S: The nose is light, bready with grains and mild yeasty residue. I'm more inclined to view this as a pale mild ale as a result.
T: Chewy, the ale is very, and I mean VERY, mild. Grains, lightly toasted and bready, own the taste and are very clean. Hops well up near the finish, giving a dose of English flavor that, momentarily, made me think Kolsch-style. The mildness is the biggest draw.
M: Very mild, dominated by the grain bill. A nice introduction to Jasper Murdock.
D: Quaffable at 4.8%.

Had on tap at the Norwich Inn. The Oh Be Joyful is named after the 'brew' Civil War soldiers brewed up from Hard Tack.
A: Pours a hazy amber color with a minimal small foam head, which is more like a film. There is no lacing.
S: There is some mild bread, caramel scents with some mild citrus and floral hops.
T: There is some chocolate, bread, biscuit and caramel blended nicely with the floral and citrus hops. Nicely balanced beer.
M: A little thin, but leaves a nice clean taste on the palate.
D: This is a very light refreshing brown ale. Easy to drink with an ABV of 4.8%.

Off the tap this beer was a pale copper color. The one-finger of beige head displayed good retention as a collar and left spotty lacing. The aroma was light, ale yeast, pale malt and faint citrus hops. The flavors were good for an English Pale Ale, light citrus hops up front, pale malt in the middle, hints of toasted vanilla, a touch of lavender and a mildly bitter finish. The mouthfeel was watery, the body light and the carbonation good. A total session beer and a refreshing one at that.

A light brown average looking beer, typical of the ones you would find in England. This English Mild Ale had little scent at all. The flavor was much the same, other than the cereal malt. The aftertaste is where it all was. A sweet honey and bitter malt in the aftertaste made the no smell and little upfront flavor worth it. Very mild, hence the name. The mouthfeel was a fluffy consistency. A very drinkable beer, if you don't want much aroma or flavor.

I can't believe I am the only person to have reviewed this brew! Anyway, cloudy tangerine when served at the Inn, it came with a rich, bready, citrusy almost rosey aroma....Interesting! I noticed the carabonation right off, a bit pilsner like in the mouthfeel, with rows of carbonation to watch rising in the glass. Malty, with a decidedly flowery hop finish (roses again, hmmm?). Interesting. Sadly the only beer I had at the place.
