22oz bomber
A) Pours with a very thin head that quickly dissipates. Mahogany to ruby in color. Good clarity. Little to no lacing on the drink down.
S) Toasted notes of grain. Subtle vanilla. Brown sugar. Caramel.
T) Malty sweet - mellow caramel, some butterscotch. Fusel alcohol in the finish.
M) Slight bit of fizz but generally flat. Medium body. Lingering soapy feel in the finish.
O) Seems a good start for a Scottish ale, but just not complete. Either the bottle I'm drinking has gone awry or this isn't the best recipe.

Found this new one on tap at the Norwich Inn on 01/26/09. This Scottish Ale was a deep garnet color with a one-finger head of beige foam. The retention was pretty good as a collar and the lacing was in broken but consistent bands. The aroma was first of caramel malt with a slight mustiness and some raisins. The flavors were rich and sweet, starting with a toasted malt note it then went to a strong caramel malt note with some brown sugar, some vanilla notes and hints of fruity esters. The mouthfeel was smooth but a little watery, the body medium and the carbonation delicate. Good and sessionable but it needed just a little more hops to balance it out.
