16oz draft pour into a pint glass shows a dark clear amber body floating a thin whitish head.
Malt aromas have a slight citrus tint that says: "Hey, I'm not a plain old regular red."
Flavors are also refreshing. Malt and caramel are joined by subtle spice and marshmallows.
I could drink this all day long....oh, wait. I am.

12 fl oz. can, no canned on date or freshness information present. My second beer from Hailstorm Brewing Co., my first offering of theirs from a can, acquired a single can as part of a mixed six pack at the local Binny's.

Poured into a Duvel tulip snifter.

A - Pours a deep dark chestnut colored body, with one finger of frothy off-white head lingering on top. Leaves good spotty lacing behind on the glass.

S - Aroma is sweet & malty. Not a whole lot happening, lots of candied caramel sweetness.

T - Taste follows the nose: big flavors of sweetened candied caramel malts. Very subtle dark fruit flavors - possibly minor notes of cherry? Most a sweet, sticky, & caramel forward beer. Reminds me of what a light barleywine might taste like. Not picking up on any herbal hop content; no hop bitterness. Minor earthiness / spice.

M - Feel is smooth, crisp, & clean. Light-bodied, and easy drinking, with good carbonation. Not overly sticky or sweet.

Overall, an interesting, flavorful, and inoffensive Irish red offering from Hailstorm. Not something I normally pick up, but I'm definitely glad to have tried it. Recommended if it is available to you.

The Southside Irish Red is a solid sessionable amber. It poured a clear amber with white head that left a spotty lace. The scent was faint malt. The taste was evenly balanced and quite drinkable. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall very solid.

Served in a tumbler at Mudelein Brewfest 2014.

Heading over to a new brewer for something I haven't had in a long while: an Irish red. It pours a clear sunset garnet topped by a finger of light khaki foam. The nose comprises caramel, earthy greens, light candied orange peel, and a touch of black pepper. The taste brings in more of the same, the now-stronger earthy greens battling the now-dry caramel for supremacy, with the candied orange peel picking up all sloppy seconds. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a mostly smooth feel. Overall, a nice red, nothing to write home about, but it's nice to see a red in this sea of IPAs, black IPAs, and saisons.
