I've liked some of hailstorms traditional ales and others have flaws, unfortunately this is the latter. Crystal clear pale amber body with a white head. Smells has the pale tones you want from the style, with good grains, but the malt runs away with it in a sweeter sense. Taste has the same issue, bready and malty with no depth. Feel is malty, smooth to the point of being too smooth for a dortmunder, and bright where it should be pale.

Pours dark bronze color. Clear with a thin white head that dissipates steadily leaving no residual head. Sticky white lacing covers the glass.
Aroma is somewhat subdued, but notes of sweet bready malts come through with some harsh grain notes and a touch of spicy herbal hops comes through.
Taste follows the nose with notes of harsh rustic grains, some bready malts, not a ton of sweetness throughout though. Spicy hops peep through on the back end. Overall its quite grainy rather than the nice bready malts Id like to see from this.
Feel is somewhat sprightly on the palate. Light to medium bodied. Dry finish.
Overall its a solid beer. Like the other Hailstorm traditional styles, this is somewhat off the mark, but I really appreciate the effort. They need to get the malts worked out - they trend grainy rather than the nice bready melanoidin malts you get from the best German styles.
