Vlad Russian Imperial Stout – over the years it’s been livened up with all manner of adjuncts, from chocolate to chili peppers and everything in between, but there was one Vlad that stood out to us from all the rest. Vlad vs Zombie vs Shark is an amped up, barrel aged version, that clocks in at a whopping 18% ABV! Originally envisioned as a one off, it’s super thick, ridiculously complex, and very difficult to brew. Lucky for you, over a year ago, we convinced Hailstorm to brew another batch. Some of it went into Eagle Rare bourbon barrels, and the rest into our hand selected Buffalo Trace barrels. Hailstorm entered beer from the Eagle Rare barrels into FOBAB and it took home silver! Our Buffalo Trace barrels have been emptied and bottles are ready to be enjoyed. So, join us as we raise a glass of this remarkable stout, bidding adieu to 2021 and hoping for a brighter 2022.

poured from a 22oz bomber into a CW snifter. pours an oily black with virtually no head. insanely wonderful aromas of bourbon-soaked chocolate, slight vanilla and even slighter dark fruits. taste doesn’t quite translate as it heavier in the dark fruits and has an odd chalkiness to it. it’s still good, but it’s not quite living up to the nose. medium-full mouthfeel. appropriate level of carbonation, however, finished a little watery and thin. overall, definitely doesn’t drink like 18%. for my knit picking, it’s really enjoyable and i would certainly drink again.
