egregious to call this thing a porter, pouring so thin and amber its more of a red ale than a porter, totally clear and transparent. it lacks in nose the roasted barley characteristic that is at the heart of any good porter, substituting instead the chocolate malt, which is much lighter and totally not bitter. it smells almost entirely like chocolate malt right form the mill, nice and fresh, grain, not actual chocolate. the taste too is all chocolate malt with very little else. no real appreciable yeast character to this, and i dont get any chocolate itself either. i was quite let down by this one overall, although its freshness is its best feature. not enough carbonation and certainly not enough body to be a porter as we now know them to be, especially american porters. i can see the potential here, but this works better as a brown ale.
