they call this a session stout, which, makes sense when we think where the style has gone, but if we think about where it started, its really just back to fundamentals. this is a wonderful beer, and as much as comrade is not my speed in so many facets from peoples mannerisms in my experience to the vibe at the brewery to marketing and the rest of it, their beer continues to impress me. this is awfully rich in feel, full bodied and fluffy, especially for the low abv, it really does a nice job texturally of capturing what the style is all about, so i dig that hard. the flavors are awesome too, more than just dark roasted barley and chocolate malt, its unconventional with a nice round middle, higher crystal malt likely and possibly a longer boil for a little caramelization. i like the way it comes together, with notes of vanilla and even raisin in an otherwise dry finish. some cool yeast happening here too, a familiar strain used a little differently it seems, i like that aspect a whole lot, and think a stout should not be without yeast character for the most part. very very tasty stuff, hope to see this one proliferate around town a little bit for the impending summer.
