Served on draft at the brewery.
Aroma: hops - pinapple and pine. The aroma makes you anxious for your first sip. Sweet bready malt in the background.
Appearance: beautiful and brite. Dark golden. The head fades quickly, especially for the style, leaving only a thin veil. The lack of a head and retention is the only variable preventing a perfect 5.
Mouthfeel: medium. The body is on the heavy side for a standard IPA, but on the lighter side for double.
Flavor: sweet bready malt is balanced nicely by the hops, which are a combination of pinapple and pine. The hops seem to be light for a 2x IPA. The alcohol hides well: no alcohol warmth or flavor.
Overall: this beer was good and certainly worthwhile, but it didn't possess any of the 'wow' intangibles.
