Draft at brewery..Stunning pour., Looks like silk. Black pour, small ring of head. Mild chocolaty, roast grain aroma. Taste is also kind of mellow, belying the high ABV. Really soft and welcoming.

Gulag Uprising - Crime and Punishment
RIS - 12% abv

L - trace head atop a pitch black body.

S - booze, roast, oak, chocolate, vanilla, good coffee.

T - jesus. A bourbon-soaked coffee with a vanilla shot. I can’t believe this is 12%.

F - full body, minimal carb.

O - I love this beer.

Pours a dark brown color with little head or carbonation.
Coffee, sweet chocolate, roasted malts, cream, and bitter dark chocolate.

Overall a pretty nice coffee beer.

Crime & Punishment Brewing Co. "Gulag Uprising"
on tap at the brewery on 21 May 2016
$5 / 8 oz.

Notes: Typical appearance for a Russian Imperial: black body beneath a creamy dark tan head. Very good head retention and lacing. Cocoa-ish in the nose, chocolatey, moderately roasty, and subtly dark-fruit-like. The flavor is wider with more dark chocolate and some black coffee. Medium bodied with a gently bristling then airy carbonation. A solid bitterness anchors it and it finishes dry with some residual ashen roast and a touch of earthiness. The alcohol never shows any more than to make it's presence felt - as is required of an Imperial stout.
