Back in the day, IPAs were bold, crisp, and packed with classic hop character. Throwback IPA brings that old-school vibe with Estate Grown Comet and Chinook from Crosby Hops, delivering a whole mood of pine, citrus, soft dank florals, and a touch of fruitiness. Throw one back and chill out.

12oz can from Brewers Haven. Foggy golden pour, thin silky white head. Aroma is over ripe fruit, melon, stone fruit. Taste retains the ripe fruit flavors, peach, apricot, pear, melon. Mildly dry finish, fruit rind.

Look: Copper on the pour and slightly opaque with a creamy, off-white head that ends as a lid and leaves good lacing behind
Aroma: Wet hop cones, freshly trimmed Cannabis, diesel, navel orange, pink grapefruit, blueberries, and bready malt
Taste: Opens with some fresh cut grass and freshly cut hop cones that hold for a moment before relenting to the dank barrage that ensues. Waves of diesel, wafting joint, and fresh flower flood in and take center stage while developing depth. Orange and grapefruit peek in and out in the middle, along with wafts of blueberry, but this is a full-on herbal train that comes to a close with a hefty bite
Mouthfeel: Full, lightly slick, medium-high carbonation, and dry on the finish
Overall: This is some good stuff. I saw Comet hops listed on the can and correctly assumed what I was in for with this beer as it is a really dank-heavy IPA and a good one at that. A total throwback (pun intended) too in its bite and dry finish and if you dig Comet, you’ll like this as the citrus/Cannabis combo shines throughout. Definitely check this one out

Clear orange amber brew with average carbonation in the chalice. Interesting aroma of grapefruit peel. Taste is essence of pine with fruit cocktail syrup, mashed up with a couple of aspirins. I don't know why some brewers seem to think "old school" IPA means a hand grenade of bittering hops. In any case this is too sweet to be like any traditional west coast IPA, and too bitter to be drinkable. A disappointing brew from Buoy, which has provided a lot of very good beers lately, so there's hope for the future. From the 12 oz can purchased at the Co-op market.

P{ours a golden/amber color with a decent head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is citrus and malt. Taste is sweet and hop bitterness with a good malt backbone. Definitely a "Throwback" to earlier IPAs. BOD 6-5-2025. Nice and fresh.
