A classic Belgian Abbey Dubbel, St. Ebrius (or drunk, in Latin) will bless you with its berry-red hue, its plummy crispness, and its caramel sweetness.

Canned 2020/11/17
Pours a light fizzy head with lower retention, a touch of lacing, semi clear slight hazy darker auburn color

Nose brings lots of sweet aromas, plenty of Belgian candi sugar, toffee, caramel, some malt-derived esters with plum, fig, date type fruits, a little perfumey alcohol and phenol notes, brown sugar, sweet biscuity toffee nutty malts

Taste has more of the sweet characters but not too sweet in general, lots of toasted biscuity malts up front, toasted bread crust, into some brown sugar, molasses and a bit of caramel, Belgian candi sugar, again malt-derived fruity esters as well as some yeast-derived, with more fig, date, plum, raisin, a hint of caramelized banana, light perfumey alcohol and spicy phenols as well, a bit of bitter spicy hops on the back end, sticky finish, bit of alcohol, bitterness lingering on the finish that seems a touch out of place

Mouth is med to fuller bod, a bit syrupy sticky, med warming carb, much more than it should for only 6.8% although hits like the style should, med to higher fizzy almost effervescent carb

Overall quite nice, the fruity esters and mild phenols were right on, malt profile was nice, a bit of a hop character that goes over what a normal Dubbel would but not bad, alcohol hits like a Dubbel but can says only 6.8% and it hits more like 8-9% which is surprising.

Poured from a 16 oz can dated 12/12/19 into the test glass
A - Nice copper color, gently carbonated, a thin white cap is quick to recede.
S - Brown sugar, plum, toffee.
T - follows the nose, and add some a light grassy herbal element
M - Thin in body, sweet through the experience. Finish and linger are dried dark fruit driven
O - A good take on the style, I hpe to try this again

Can. Clear reddish amber with no head -- it basically fizzes away instantly. Fruity plummy fig and caramel aroma. Caramel toasted brown sugar sweetness with plummy fruit and light herbal bitterness in fairly dry finish for style. Medium body but lifeless and not soft like a Belgian.
