The Irish Style Ale is a medium bodied, less hoppy cousin of the English pale ale. The style typically exhibits a malty, buttery and caramel character and has received a great deal of renewed interest. Our Irish Style Ale is a proper compliment to our Extra Special Bitter. Light red in color, it is the first adventurous step into the darker beers for a new craft beer drinker. A gentle hop profile allows the lightly sweet maltiness to come through. A beer with a nice round mouth feel, it is a great choice for the red wine drinker.

Appearance: Clear, medium amber body with a large, robust, dense tan head, which retains quite well. Slow-rising carbonation drifts lazily to the surface. Spectacular lacing resembling extraterrestrial hieroglyphs adorns the glass walls.
Aroma: Dark caramel and toasted malt dominate the aroma. The nose somewhat resembles a brown ale. Slight burnt notes are present as well.
Taste: Opens with robust toasted malt. Beneath this, there is a little dark caramel, quite restrained in its character, but mildly sweet. As the taste progresses, some dark roasted malt presents itself, as well as a flavor of deeply toasted dark bread. These flavors carry to the close with a slight tannin quality appearing late in the taste. Finishes with a mild flourish of herbal hops, which play off well against the toasted malt backbone.
Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, very pleasant.
Drinkability/notes: A quite well-made example, which seems apropos for the fall season.
Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce brown glass long neck bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a Samuel Adams Boston Lager Sensory glass.
