Format: a standard 330mL brown bottle with a reasonable semi-macro label. The first beer I have had from Red Island Brewing Co - never heard of them.
Appearance: poured into a tulip glass - a vibrant golden amber colour with very limited carbonation visible. A reasonable finger of off-white head with patchy lacing.
Aroma: plenty of caramel malts with some citrus and earth notes. Really quite refreshing.
Taste: this is fantastic! More caramel malts and definite citrus. A very refreshing beer.
Aftertaste: a touch of bitterness coming through on the finish, but still quite sweet from the caramel malts.
Mouth feel: moderate in body with a moderate carbonation. Quite a reasonable body - I expected a higher carbonation, yet the flavour is quite full. Lovely!
Overall: quite a nice and refreshing APA - I quite liked this one. Whilst the flavour profile is nothing out of the ordinary for an APA, this is a good take on the traditional APA style. It is probably worth it at AU$65 a case of 24 x 330mL. I'll definitely take a 6pack.

I had a 330ml bottle bottle with a nice home made butter chicken. Good combo.
Appearance: good Amber colour and 1cm head that slowly dissipated but not too quickly. Carbonation good and held it. A little cloudiness as expected but I did not rouse the sediments too much on this beer.
Flavour: good caramel malts on the palate and clean finish. Not much bitterness in the hops, easy drinking.
Aroma: subtle citrus and tropical stone fruits from the hops, not overwhelming or very pronounce but evident.
Overall: very drinkable pale ale and nothing really too bad about it but not up with others that have more pronounced hop aroma and bitterness. Give it a go.

Mainstream APA with peach notes, with a huge malt presence giving it a bready addition.
Unremarkable otherwise and a tick beer only.

I am dreading this brew after the awfully bad Kolsch… at least I can completely lower my expectations when I try this, hey there silver lining! Also on the plus side it is a Pale Ale and really that style is not easy to stuff up… my taste buds remain optimistic.
Poured from a 330ml bottle into a stein.
A: Cloudy amber bodied with a 1cm white head that soon reduces to a lacing on top.
S: A typical American Pale Ale right off the bat; piney/citric hops with a solid toasted caramel malt base. All good signs, though it is nothing that hasn’t been done a thousand times before.
T: Quite a muted response from the flavour of this brew. The aroma promised a hearty American Pale Ale and unfortunately it does not deliver on the promise; more citric than piney hops with caramel malts and that overbearing metallic taste that was noted with the Kolsch. Finishes with (what can barely be called) bitter hops.
M: Mid to light bodied with a medium carbonation, a bit watery as well.
D: So bit of a letdown then. Again it seems another case of Australian craft brewers afraid to push the envelope like their American cousins. Maybe it’s a case of me having a more Americanised palate and loving the boldness of a good APA. Either way I remain entirely indifferent to this or the Kolsch and will do my utmost not to run into them again.
Food match: This is the part where I would normally recommend a Thai dish or some spicy Indian cuisine, but with this Pale Ale I will instead recommend a bowl of soup, possibly pea and ham, with some crusty bread.
