BOTTLE courtesy of Silverpig - thanks for picking this up in Shanghai, mate! 330 ml brown glass bottle with true to panda black and white label art. Has a pull-tab aluminum cap.
12 degrees Plato. 5% ABV. "Witbier." Label does say "Killed A Copycat" on it, and I could see someone mistaking that for the name of the beer.
APPEARANCE: Body is turbid and cloudy, indicating a lack of filtration (true to style). No yeast is visible within, at least not after the first pour from the bottle. Head is white and fluffy and sticks around a good 6 minutes.
AROMA: Biscuity saccharomyces yeast(s) aromatics are evident. Some muted citrus. Floral aromatics. Fruity notes. I get a sort of citrus puree note blended with the biscuity yeast that isn't entirely pleasant. Wheat, of course. Seems too warmly fermented if I'm remembering some of my homebrew disasters right and lining up their aromas to this.
I'm not finding coriander or lemon peel.
Aromatic intensity is low.
TASTE: Brewers' orange peel. Coriander. Biscuity saccharomyces yeast. Muted vague citrus puree. Banana. The yeast-derived esters don't seem to match the style quite right and it doesn't taste very fresh. Not imbalanced, but it's definitely rough around the edges in terms of its flavour profile.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, medium-bodied, semi-refreshing.
OVERALL: A decent stab at a witbier, but it can't hold a candle to the best Belgian or American expressions of the style. I couldn't see myself returning this unless I was desperate to get away from Snow beer or Tsingtao while backpacking mainland China...

Looked good, nose was good but the taste and mouthfeel to this one was off. it fell a bit flat on the Belgian spices and what not I was expecting but the worst part was the mouthfeel. it was fat and oily. just a tad bit hard to force down. enjoyed their aviator pale ale but this one not so much.
