they use cryo hops in this one, and its evident in the nose and taste, that fresher, more intense, more forward, earlier starting pungent hop complexion, its nice beer, well made, flavorful, and balanced for what it is, but like their french saison i also had in here, it seemed a little bit safe to me, not as adventurous as i want it to be, a nice ipa, but could have been made by anyone, and after three beers from these guys, i am wondering if they have much of an identity, sure the quality has been high, real high even, but the soul seems to be lacking a little. maybe simcoe and citra on this, its not super unique at all, but the hops are fresh and bright and delicious through the whole drink, it warms up well, retains some bitterness for being as obviously dry hoppy as it is, and has a nice dry but flavorful grain base to it that really supports these hops well, a little something deeper and fuller than just pale barley, but nothing sweet or toasted or big in here, nicely built. slightly sticky to finish, the hops have some staying power on the tongue, but high carbonation washes the rest of it clean. drinkable for its strength and technically excellent. ill drink some more from these guys when i am in town again next month and see if i can get to the core of their being, maybe its just good, safe, predictable ales... nothing wrong with that in a world where so much bad ambitious beer exists, but i want a little more flair from a brewery that obviously has the basics down...
