an outlandish 28 pounds per barrel of wet simcoe hops in this one, and for all the sort of bashing ive done on simcoe this year due to how common it seems to be in these fresh hop beers, this is pretty awesome. i dont think its quite as compelling as their draughtworks collaboration with wet sabro and honey in it, but its mighty tasty as well. fresh cut christmas tree and milled white pine in the nose, a light lumber thing to it, juicy fruity notes, some familiar like grapefruit flesh, others less so from simcoe like an apparent fresh mango thing going on, really vibrant and up front, and there is almost no drop off from the smell to the taste. i am at once surprised and impressed how pungent this is, yet how there is a total lack of the green vegetal bite that plagues a lot of these primarily dry hopped brews. this is oily and resinous in the mouthfeel from the wet hops, but its not sticky or heavy to me, built on a really basic malt bill and fermented clean and dry for what it is. the hops hang around awhile on the swallow, identifiable as simcoe for sure, but more nuanced than a lot of other beers done with it this fall have been, tangerine and clementine notes, a quick floral wash, and then just a bit of bitterness to finish. ive had a ton of simcoe wet hop beers this fall, and this one is near the top of the heap. nice work here!
