Purchased at the brewery with dinner. Presented in a pint glass. Respectable foamy head. Translucent amber color. Hoppy, grainy notes to the aroma.
Very heavy in the mouth. A touch of bitterness that lingers after swallowing. Pungent flavor, somewhat like a Bitburger or other more heavily-hopped pilsner. Metallic aftertaste.
This is a kolsch-style ale, and to me seems a lot heavier on the bitter hops than the sweeter malts that would give an ale its characteristic flavor. While crisp and bitter in flavor, the beer has a heaviness in the mouth and stomach associated with a dopplebock. Opted to not finish the beer.
May be enjoyed by those who enjoy a hoppy craft beer with a strong, authoritative flavor that would not normally be associated with the easy-drinking kolsch style.
