on tap at the brewpub in Delafield. pours a lightly hazy apricot orange color with a single finger of frothy white head that is reduced to a soapy rim after a minute or two. very bright in the glass.
aroma is of lightly coniferous hops and a bit of caramel malts. curiously simple and crisp in the nose, with a touch of fruit added in as the brew warms.
taste is of light caramel malts with smooth piney hops on the finish. a base of bready malt puts the rest in perspective, with a bit of hoppy fruit is thrown in as well, creating a nicely compact profile with just a bit of residual bitter hops in the aftertaste. could use more malt character as a maibock, but well done on the palate for what it is.
mouthfeel is medium bodied with a mildly bitter character and a finish that could use some malt backbone.
drinkability is good. this could be a solid session beer (even though it is 7% APV), with a fresh character and a good ease of drinkability. one would not pick up on the 7% APV from the taste alone, which is a positive note.

A decent Maibock...pretty sweet in mouthfeel....the ABV is relatively high but the alcohol is not noticable....some bready qualities in the taste....also a slight spicy noble hop presence...
I wanted to take a growler of this back to review at home but they wanted $5 more per growler for this one because it is a little higher in alcohol at 7% or something like that....I found that uncalled for and went with the Hefe instead..
Decent enough beer and worth drinking if you are in the neighborhood.

This beer is actually a hazy golden tone. Not used to a hazy maibock, but otherwise, looks pretty decent. A nice eggshell colored head lays on top. The lacing produces spiderweb like patterns. Aroma is nice. Sweet malt. Herbal hoppiness. Those traits blend together nicely on the nose. The flavor is really nice. Such a nice sweet maltiness to this one. Some flowery hop tones accent underneath the malt. A bavarian character is unmistakable in this maibock. Bread tones are big as well. Mouthfeel is a little on the low side for carbonation, but that may be due the fact that this growler is a week old. This is a tasty maibock.
